This is one of the favorite meeting points for lovers, poets, folk singers, philosophers and fishermen. El Malecón has an especially passionate atmosphere when it is growing dark, as here you’ll be able to experience one of the best sunsets the island has to offer.

The Malecón was designed as a small maritime promenade for the middle class in the first decade of the 1900s; but the following decade it was quickly extended towards the east, resulting in an eclectic architecture mixing the Neoclassical with Art Nouveau.

From 1950 the highway of El Malecón de La Habana has a total of six lanes, so it is one of Havana’s must-visit places. The Malecón’s architecture is quite outstanding, housing countless old buildings in the midst of being restored.

On summer nights, the Malecón offers an extraordinary atmosphere thanks to the carnival, where all types of races and traditions come together in the form of non-stop troupes and floats. It is a great party where the sound of traditional drums is mixed with modern reggaeton and salsa songs.

Some of the best hotels of Havana are located in this place, such as the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, Riviera or Meliá-Habana.
