This area is where the first coffee plantation of Cuba was established, and offers the only canopy circuit of Cuba. Here arrive buses from Havana full of tourists wanting to spend a day in touch with nature. In this picturesque town is established a thriving artistic community of open studies and workshops.

The town also features a small lake (Lago San Juan) where you can rent paddle boats and water nikes; but - above all - what stands out the most is the lush natural surroundings, perfect for trips to relax and birdwatch.

This area was once occupied by 54 coffee plantations in the peak of Cuban coffee, during the 20s and 30s. Nowadays, coffee is almost entirely abandoned and the tourist can go deep into the forest to find the remains of twelve other coffee plantations.

The most important attractions in the area are: Cafetal Buenavista, Hacienda Unión, ruins of San Pedro and Santa Catalina, Pena de Polo Montañez Museum, and the Lestee Campa Gallery, as well as the squares.

Las Terrazas is a perfect place for exploring and getting in touch with nature, so we advise you to go on some of the many hiking parties and trips offered. The most interesting ones are the ones in San Claudio, El Contento, El Taburete, El Sendero, La Serafina, El Sendero de las Delicias, el Sendero Valle del Bayate, and the Canopy Circuit. Some must-see places are the waterfall of San Juan Baths, and the Bayate Baths.
