Created in 2003 by the famous movie director Humberto Solás, it is born with the target of creating an alternative movie circuit, when only movies with a budget of less than 300,000$ can participate.
The contestants can participate in different modalities depending on its creations. Since the contest of mockup projects and unpublished scripts for full-length films and shorts and full-length films going through the one for documentaries. The assistants can also enjoy the videoart, samples of new technologies, etc.
With a maximum prize of 15,000 euros, in cinematographic material or cash, the participants come from very different countries such as the US, India, France Ecuador, El Chad, Macedonia...
The topics are opened, since the target, further from the economic, is the creation of new opportunities, the cultural exchanges and the building of links between different countries to made known their own cultures.
Celebrated in the month of April in the Villa Blanca of Cuba, because of the request of Solán himself, one of the places where Lucía was shot in 1968; Gibara gets ready each year for this festival, which hosts for seven days to local and international personalities opening the debate and the exchanging of ideas.
